One of the highlights of Heads Up Festival is LUNG’s The 56.

Adapted solely from over sixty real-life testimonies, The 56 looks at the 1985 Bradford City fire disaster, when a fire broke out in the main stand at Valley Parade football ground during the last game of the season. Within four minutes, the wooden structure was ablaze.

Developed with The Lowry & The Civic in Barnsley, this bold and pertinent piece of documentary theatre pays homage to the supporters who lost their lives in one of the darkest days in British footballing history.

The 56 examines the solidarity, strength and community in the face of overwhelming tragedy. Awards for The 56 include The Directors Guild Award for Best Newcomer, The Spotlight Award for Most Promising Actress and The Judges Award for Best Ensemble (NSDF).
